So, I came back from my interview feeling good about the position and knowing they were going to make a quick decision. I came back Wednesday the 21st, they met Thursday, and on Friday the chair of the committee called and said they had selected me. So when my parents left on Saturday, we thought we were Pueblo bound. However, the offer was no better than here so in my negotiations with the dean I asked about something for Nick. He took some time and came back to say they could not even guarantee adjunct. On top of that, we would only get $500 to move across country. So although the fit was good for me, it did not make sense for us to take the offer eating into our savings and losing some of the financial stability we have gained here. Which means we are staying at Marshall another year. But, we missed the deal for resigning our lease and the people are not being responsive, so we may still have to find a house. Which means we are packing everything to store it all summer and then travel back here to house hunt. We will spend most of the summer in Atlanta so Nick can pilot some fMRI research to apply for an NSF grant and so I can do some zoo related stuff. We also both have a lot to write up and can use the free babysitting. Ah, the life of an academic. Sometimes you really pay for the flexibility by having a constant pile of to do stuff. So if you had told me a month ago I would be turning down a job, I would have laughed, but sometimes things just work out differently than you think. Wish us luck packing and finding a new place to live.
Sam is doing well, she just has a lingering cough. She is watching a bit too much tv as we need to sort and pack and Nick has been gone a lot running subjects. So that leaves me to try and get some stuff done while taking care of her and of course there is only so much I can do while she naps and I need to be somewhat quiet. We are trying to keep things from stressing her out too much. Although she did ask why we were packing and I said we were going to live in a new house, which she then wanted to go to then and not nap in this house. Patience is not a 2 year old quality. We made brownies the other day and waiting for them to cook and cool was melt down inducing.
She is enjoying playing a lot. She has been building with the duplo blocks a lot lately. She makes "castles" for us a lot. She built this one all by herself and it is almost as tall as she is.
